GigaMare’s way of developing future officers is not just simply teaching, but one with learning that is never forgotten, a learning with application – Seatrade Deck Cadet Ireneo Roque Jr. shared his thoughts during the completion ceremony for this year’s latest batch of cadets last September 29. It was indeed a special day for Deck and Engine Cadets who successfully completed the 16-week Structured Training Program at GigaMare Inc’s training campus.
Advancements on the shipping industry is continuously growing so thus the need for capable workforce that will man the expanding fleets. To keep abreast, shipping companies have taken practical interest in Cadets’ training, undeniably offering opportunity to maintain manpower resources.
Molding cadets into future Captains and Chief Engineers ready to serve on board is the driving purpose behind the programs’ learning portfolios. Having a holistic approach in training, the enhancement program covers knowledge, skill, competence, behavioural, and emotional aspects of the participants. Enhancing the cadets’ know-how in seamanship, and improving human performance through close to real working environment training applications.
Gracing the ceremony, are representatives from Seatrade and FA Vinnen Philippines. Captain Greg Sevilla of Seatrade reminisced some of his onboard experience and emphasized the gravity of having discipline and the courage to continue learning on board. He then reminded the graduates that their determination now will determine their future, and that they need not be discouraged.

These future officers will soon embark their journey at sea on board vessels of their principal companies.
