GigaMare believes that specific skills and competencies may only be retained thru hands-on practice. And thus, we are delighted to announce that we have recently expanded our Simulation and Research Center. The training facility now houses an additional one full mission engine simulator and two full mission ship handling simulators.
All systems and components of the simulators were installed and tested to meet the operational requirements in close cooperation with Wärtsilä during the project commissioning last June 2019. Ship crew may navigate through the different decks of the engine room inside the Virtual Engine Room Station. Equipped with control and monitoring consoles, electrical starters, synchronization panels, local panels, and emergency generator panel, operators can simulate and adjust key parameters of the running engine and simultaneously witness how each component operate during the whole process.
Having full access to Wärtsilä’s library of ship models and exercise areas, GigaMare Simulation and Research Center’s two ship handling bridges offer an immersive learning environment to the crew. Watch the video below and take a glimpse on the bridges’ multi-function displays, controls, and visualization features (Bridge 1 with Wärtsilä NACOS Platinum Equipment, Bridge 2 with Wärtsilä TRANSAS Equipment). Innovative as it sounds, the ship handling simulator may be run with the engine room simulator to train and foster better ship resource management. These DNV certified Class A simulators comply with requirements of IMO STCW 2010 with Manila amendments.
In addition to the installed software, GigaMare can develop and provide tailor-made ship handling exercise areas as per the needs of our clients. GigaMare’s President envisions to maximize this training platform to practice emergency responders within the maritime industry, specifically starting with the coast guard and port personnel of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.
Improved simulation reliability for an innovative and more competent learning environment.
