In today's global environment, change is the only thing that remains constant. The technology we see in our day-to-day lives is continuously evolving and changing; in pursuit of being more efficient and sustainable, this is evident in the Maritime Industry. With the advancements in maritime technology and the onset of the pandemic in 2020, training centres globally have seen a drastic shift in remote and digital training delivery.

GigaMare began digitalizing its training courses in 2018, developing online course contents and virtual simulators and utilizing its Learning Management System to disseminate course materials. GigaMare offers the best of both worlds by integrating the Wärtsilä Cloud Simulator and state-of-the-art hands-on equipment. At GigaMare, we believe that specific skills and competencies can be effectively retained and honed thru hands-on practice.

Our Simulation & Research Centre houses two ship handling bridges which include: Wärtsilä NACOS Platinum Equipment and Wärtsilä Transas Equipment, both of which have full access to Wärtsilä's library of ship models and exercise areas that provide a world-class immersive learning environment. All systems and components of the simulators are built to meet the operational requirements in close cooperation with Wärtsilä.

In addition, GigaMare also boasts a Full Mission Engine Simulator (ERS 5000 TechSim), which enables trainees to navigate through the different decks of the engine room inside the Virtual Engine Room Station. This ERS is equipped with control and monitoring consoles,  electrical starters, synchronization panels, local panels, six workstations, and emergency generator panels, where operators can simulate and adjust key parameters of the engine in operation and simultaneously witness how each component operates and react to each other.

The ship handling and engine room simulator can be operated simultaneously to train and foster better ship resource management. These DNV-certified Class A simulators comply with the requirements of IMO STCW 2010 with Manila amendments. Aside from the installed software, GigaMare can develop and provide tailor-made ship handling exercise areas and assessments per our clients' needs.

GigaMare also houses various simulation equipment, such as an in-house Electronic Engine Control Simulator (ME-C), which features augmented reality and virtual reality.

Gas Diesel Engine Simulators, RT-Flex Engine Room Simulator, Winterthur Gas and Diesel (WINGD) Type Specific Simulator and LNG Steam Turbine Simulator. In addition, GigaMare’s simulation centre is also equipped with Transas Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator for Oil and LPG Tankers and L3 Simulator covering Chemical and LNG Tankers. This helps familiarize participants from cargo planning, up to discharge at sea according to MARPOL requirements.

To provide quality training that makes a difference, GigaMare is constantly investing in the improvement of its training equipment and facilities; as proof of our commitment to training excellence, we are currently in the process of installing two more full mission engine room simulators at our Training Centre, to be utilized alongside our existing sleet of world-class simulators.
