Deck and Engine Rating Skill Enhancement Training

Course Objective

The training is organized to address specific competency requirements listed but not limited to below. After completing the training, Deck Trainees should be able to:

  • Carry out mooring equipment maintenance

  • Carry out corrosion prevention exercises

  • Apply theoretical knowledge to surface preparation and maintenance

  • Explain the procedures on the safe use of hydro blasting equipment

  • Explain gangway maintenance routines

  • Perform maintenance of pumps

  • Understand the importance of sampling and cargo measurements

  • Apply theoretical knowledge to sampling and measurements

  • Understand importance and methods of tank preparation

  • Understand cross-contamination and the prevention thereof

  • Demonstrate Safety Practices

  • Safety

  • Introduction to corrosion prevention

  • Painting conditions and limitations

  • Surface preparation with hand and power tools

  • Paint application

  • Valves maintenance and overhauling- various types, changing of packing material, bending pipes

  • Pumps maintenance and overhauling- various types, PMS, changing of seals, alignment, bearing replacement Maintenance of Mooring Winch, Windlass and Gangway

  • Practical application of cargo measurements

  • Introduction to cargo tank and cargo system cleaning and preparation

  • Valves maintenance and overhauling- various types, changing of packing material, bending pipes

  • Pumps maintenance and overhauling- various types, PMS, changing of seals, alignment, bearing replacement

  • Separator Maintenance and Overhauling

  • Overhauling of Heat Exchangers

  • LO Filters Auto Filter

  • Engine Maintenance Precision Measurement

  • Assessment
